Term-time holidays – new fines

Parents in England and Wales face new fines if they do not ensure that their children attend school. Parents are legally responsible to ensure that their children attend school, unless home-schooled.

Head teachers were once able to grant up to 10 days leave a year for a family holiday in “special circumstances”. Since September 2013 this has now changed to “exceptional circumstances”.
